Definitions to Noun Answer Words

Below are definitions to eighteen of the less common "z" nouns used in the puzzle above:

zanza: An African musical instrument consisting of a resonating box with tuned strips of wood or metal attached to it that are plucked using the thumbs.
zarf: An ornamental metal coffee cup-holder.
zari: Gold brocade used to decorate clothes.
zax: A tool used for cutting roof slates.
zazen: A form of Zen meditation.
zeatin: A naturally occurring growth hormone found in many plants.
zein: A chemical compound found in maize.
zelkova: An Asian tree of the elm family cultivated for its resistance to Dutch elm disease.
zeugmas: Figures of speech in which an adjective or verb is used with two nouns but is appropriate to only one of them or has a different sense with each.
zho: The offspring of a cross between a cow and yak; (can also be spelled "dzo", or simply "zo").
zine: An informal term for a self-published paper, Internet magazine, or other periodical, issued at irregular intervals with and usually appealing to a specialist readership.
ziti: A medium-sized tubular pasta, longer and thicker than macaroni.
zizz: 1. A brief nap. 2. A buzzing or whizzing sound.
zorbing: The activity of rolling down a hill while strapped inside an extremely large plastic ball.
zori: A simple type of sandal, having a flat sole and a single thong over the toes.
zoster: 1. A belt worn by men in ancient Greece. 2. (In medicine), same as shingles.
zouk: A style of dance music originating in the Caribbean, played with guitars and synthesizers, combining a strong fast disco beat and Caribbean rhythms.
zoysia: Any of several creeping, perennial grasses often used for lawns.
