Crater Lake National Park, on the crest of the Cascades in southern Oregon is home to the deepest lake in the United States. The caldera that created the outer rim of Crater Lake is believed to have been formed when Mount Mazama exploded roughly 8000 years ago. The pristine lake must be seen in person for its magnificence to be fully appreciated. The lake is known for its deep blue clarity and a drive is available along the rim to see the water up close.
Volcanoes left many other geological features in the park and there are a multitude of activities available for enjoying this wonderland.
