When folks in other parts of the world think of New York, New York City is what comes to mind the majority of the time. However, the state of New York has many interesting attractions outside of the Big Apple. The Adirondack Mountains are a popular resort area in the northeastern part of the state that lies wholly within the Adirondack Park, the largest state park in the world. The area is known for its hundreds of lakes.
In the southeastern section of New York state lies a range of the Appalachians, known as the Catskills, or Catskill Mountains. This area, too is home to many popular resort areas. And of course, New York is home to the world famous Niagara Falls, an area it shares with the nation of Canada. The waterfall in Canada is Horseshoe Falls; the section in the US is the American Falls.
