There are many places in the state of Michigan named Mackinac, most of which are located between Lakes Michigan and Huron. For instance the Straits of Mackinac, which link Lake Huron and Lake Michigan and separate the two peninsulas that comprise the state of Michigan.
Mackinac Island is located in the straits and is the site of Mackinac Island State park. In addition, Michigan is home to Mackinac River, Mackinac Falls, Mackinac Point, Mackinac Bridge, and a Mackinac County, among others.
Mackinac Island, the entirety of which is listed as a National Historic Landmark, is a popular summer resort which features a town with Victorian character. No automobiles, other than emergency vehicles, are permitted on the islands. Horse-drawn carriages and bicycles are two means to get around.
