Connecticut is one of six New England states. The other five being Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The New England region of the United States is located in the northeastern section of the nation and was home to a number of historic events in Colonial America. The majority of New Englanders live in the three states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, with five of the top ten most populous cities in the region being in Connecticut: Bridgeport, Hartford (state capital), New Haven, Stamford, and Waterbury.
