Hot Springs is a resort town in west central Arkansas noted for the thermal springs, (promoted to have health benefits) located there. In 1832, the US Congress established a federal reservation adjacent to the city to protect the thermal springs. In 1921 a national park was established to protect the area and has since been under the care of the National Park Service. Over a million people visit the park each year to bathe in the waters, seeking relief from a varied assortment of ailments, including many that suffer from atrophic arthritis.
