One of the best know journalists from the Commonwealth of Kentucky is Diane Sawyer. Sawyer, who has been an anchor on Good Morning America since 1999, will took over the anchor chair of ABC World News in January 2010. ABC News made the announcement on September 2, 2009, saying that Sawyer would take over for evening news anchor Charles Gibson at his retirement.

Sawyer was born in Glasgow, Kentucky and grew up in Louisville. After college, Sawyer worked for WLKY-TV in Louisville, until 1970, at which time she went to work as a press aide during the Nixon administration. She later assisted former President Nixon in the writing of his memoirs.

Diane Sawyer also worked for the CBS network, as an anchor on their CBS Morning News from 1981-1984, and as a 60 Minutes correspondent from 1984-1989. In 1989 she moved to ABC as an anchor on their news magazine show, Primetime Live.
