Popular Dogs

Of the estimated 400 breeds of dogs in the world, the most popular one in the United States and the United Kingdom, according to registration statistics, is the Labrador retriever. The Labrador retriever was first bred in Canada to "retrieve" fallen birds after hunters shot them down. They are known as an intelligent, social, loyal companion.

According to the American Kennel Club, the Yorkshire Terrier is the second most popular (U.S.) dog, and the cocker spaniel ranks second in the UK. Other breeds that make the top ten list in both the U.S. and Great Britain include: German Shepherd, (or Alsatian), third in the U.S., fourth in the UK; Golden Retriever, fourth in the U.S., seventh in the UK; and the boxer, ranked seventh in the U.S., and ninth in the UK.

NOTE: Ranks are based on registered animals only.

In the word search puzzle above, the names used are based on popularity in the United States.
