Simple Definitions to a Selection of Answer Words

Bandwidth A data transmission rate; the maximum amount of information (bits/second) that can be transmitted along a channel.

Binary Of or pertaining to a number system having 2 as its base. Modern digital devices using a binary number system that utilizes only two digits 1 and 0. Every digit is represented as a power of 2.

Bitmap An electronic image represented as a two dimensional array of brightness values for pixels.

Blog Short for web log, a blog is an on-line journal of sorts, where people can post diary entries about their personal experiences and hobbies; or commentary that focuses on a subject directed at people with shared interests.

Broadband Of or relating to or being a communications network in which the bandwidth can be divided and shared by multiple simultaneous signals (as for voice or data or video).

Cyberspace A synonym for the Internet, cyberspace is a worldwide information system composed of interconnected computer networks that use the TCP/IP network protocols to facilitate data transmission and exchange.

Driver (or device driver) is a program that determines how a computer will communicate with a peripheral device.

DSL Short for digital subscriber line, DSL is a generic name for digital lines that can carry data at high speeds and are provided by telephone companies to local subscribers.

Firewall In computing, a security system consisting of a combination of hardware and software that limits the exposure of a computer or computer network to attack from hackers; commonly used on local area networks that are connected to the internet.

Flash A flash drive, or flash memory is a type of storage that can be electrically erased and programmed anew. small amounts of electric charge are trap on the surface of a chip. The charges can be drained and new information written on the device. Flash drives are useful for transferring information between devices and for data that is updated frequently.

FTP Short for File Transfer Protocol, ftp is set of rules that allows users to copy files between a local computer and any system on a network that permits access.

Gigabyte Commonly referred to as Gig, or simply G, a gigabyte is a unit of information equal to 1,073,741,824bytes, or 1024 megabytes.

Host A computer directly connected to the Internet that provides access to files and printers as shared resources to a computer network. For example iPower, provides a variety of hosting packages.

HTML Short for hypertext mark-up language, HTML is a set of tags and rules for formatting language to be read on the Web.

HTTP Short for hypertext transfer protocol, HTTP is a protocol for transferring hypertext requests and information between servers and browsers.

Hyperlink A link from a hypertext file to another location or file; typically activated by clicking on a highlighted word or icon at a particular location on the screen.

ISP Short for Internet service provider, an ISP is a company that provides access to the Internet.

Javascript A simple platform-independent object-oriented programming language used for writing applets that are downloaded from the World Wide Web by a client and run on the client's machine. Java was introduced into the computing world by Sun Microsystems, Inc. in 1995 and is what makes the puzzle above work inside an Internet browser.
