Did You Know?

One of the best known lines in literature: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." is often attributed, erroneously, to different authors, philosophers, and peoples of history. The line begins Charles Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities.

Charles John Huffam Dickens, (1812-1870) is arguably the best-known English novelist of the 19th century. His works continue to be quite popular and well-read for their detailed narratives and memorable, and often comic characters.

Dickens knew both hardship and great success during his lifetime. As a young lad he was forced to drop out of school and work in a factory while his father was jailed for debts. With the publication of The Pickwick Papers, Dickens achieved great popularity, at the age of 24, which continued until his death in 1870.
