Four of the busiest airports in the world are located in the United States: William B. Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta (ATL); O'Hare International Airport in Chicago (ORD); Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW); and Los Angeles International Airport in California (LAX).

Atlanta's international airport has led the world in the highest passenger traffic for the past decade, followed by O'Hare International in Chicago, which held the top spot until surpassed by Atlanta's Hartsfield in 1998. However, in counting "international passengers", London's Heathrow tops the list, followed by Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris, France.
