Actor James Spader, referred to in 9 Across in the TV Crossword above, hit the big screen in his first major role in 1981 in the teen hit Endless Love. (This was also the first film in which Tom Cruise appeared.) Spader played Brooke Shields' brother in the movie. Since that time Spader has accumulated dozens of film credits, but is best known to TV audiences as the Emmy Award winning star of Boston Legal.

Spader's Boston Legal character, Alan Shore, was first introduced on the television series The Practice. Alan Shore is a brilliant but often quirky attorney who mannerisms and eccentricities often give his character more character.

Boston Legal was broadcast regularly on ABC from October 2004 to December 2008, and is now seen regularly in syndication.

The TV comedy-drama, Ugly Betty, premiered on ABC in September 2006 and stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, an intelligent but average looking young woman, who works at a fashion magazine in New York City. Other cast members include Eric Mabius, Ana Ortiz, Vanessa Williams, Mark Indelicato, and the one given as the clue and answer for 11 Down in the TV crossword above.

Ferrera has won a number of awards for her role in this TV series. However, to fans of the big screen she is known for her starring role in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2
