TV Trivia

Michael Landon grew up in New Jersey and won a scholarship to the University of Southern California for his javelin throwing abilities. He dropped out after suffering a physical injury in his first year of college that ended his javelin throwing career.

After working a number of odd jobs, Landon took up acting. His first "starring" role in movies was the 1957 production, I Was a Teenage Werewolf.

In 1959, he landed the role of Little Joe on the popular TV western Bonanza, and was with the series to the end of its run, (1973).

Having written and directed a few of the Bonanza episodes, Landon went on to write and direct and produce the next TV series he starred in, Little House on the Prairie. He portrayed Charles Ingalls from 1974 to 1982 on the hit show, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination in 1979.

Landon's next regular television appearance was as the guardian angel, Jonathan Smith, on Highway to Heaven from 1984-1989; another show which he also wrote, directed, and produced. His co-star on this series was Victor French, Landon's friend, known previously to television audiences as Mr. Edwards on Little House on the Prairie.
