TV Trivia Question: Who Is She?

The woman referred to in clue 20 Across in the TV crossword puzzle above has been working in the entertainment industry for over eight decades, as an actress on stage, television, and the movie screen. She received an Academy Award nomination for her very first film role in the 1944 production of Gaslight. Her first musical performance on Broadway, which received positive reviews, was the 1964 musical Anyone Can Whistle. She went on to win five Tony Awards for subsequent stage performances in various productions. She is best known to TV audiences as a mystery writer turned sleuth in the drama Murder, She Wrote that originally ran from 1984 to 1996, and is still aired in syndication. She is also the recipient of six Golden Globe Awards and has been nominated for a number of Emmy Awards. This actress was born in London, England in 1925. Do you know who she is?
