TV Trivia: Men of a Certain Age and Everybody Loves Raymond

The actor referred to in clue 30 Across in the puzzle above, Ray Romano, has a new show on television called Men of a Certain Age. The show stars Romano as Joe, Scott Bakula as Terry, and Andre Braugher as Owen.

The three veteran actors portray best friends sharing their day-to-day lives as they go through the adventures of middle age. In the series, Joe is divorced and has two children; Terry is unmarried, but dating a much younger woman and struggling to establish a career as an actor; and Owen is a husband and father, and works for his father as a car salesman.

(The original script for the initial show was written by Ray Romano and Mike Royce, who worked together on Everybody Loves Raymond.)

Romano is of course best known to television audiences for the award-winning sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, that ran originally on CBS from 1996-2005 and is still much broadcast in syndication.

Everybody Loves Raymond, starred Romano as Ray Barone; Patricia Heaton as Debra Barone; Brad Garrett as Ray's brother Robert; Doris Roberts as Ray's meddling mother Marie; Peter Boyle as Ray's father, Frank; and Monica Horan as Robert's wife Amy.

Romano, Heaton, Garrett, and Roberts, all won individual Emmy awards for their work on the show, and Boyle was nominated seven times.

Scott Bakula is best known to TV viewers for his starring role as Dr. Sam Beckett in the television sci-fi series Quantum Leap.

Emmy award-winning actor Andre Braugher is known best to TV audiences as "Detective Frank Pembleton" of Homicide: Life on the Street, and as psychiatrist Dr. Nolan on House.

The TNT network initially ordered ten episodes of Men of a Certain Age and the first episode premiered on December 7, 2009.
