The TV crossword puzzle below uses the names of TV characters and the names of the actors and actresses that play the roles as the main theme clues. The puzzle also contains a sampling of easy general knowledge clues and answers to provide easier solving for the average television viewer.
The hit TV drama Grey's Anatomy, (referred to in clue 25 Down in the puzzle above) airs on ABC on Thursday nights, and centers around the surgeon, Dr. Meredith Grey and her co-workers at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. In the TV series, Meredith's parents play minimal roles, with her mother Ellis, after having fulfilled a career as a renowned surgeon, depicted as suffering from Alzheimer's and dying in the series. It is revealed that Dr. Ellis Grey had an affair with Seattle Grace Chief of Surgery, Dr. Richard Webber.
As a result of the affair, and Ellis's time-consuming career, Meredith's father, Thatcher Grey, left and divorced Ellis when Meredith was a small child. In the show's plot, he remarried and fathered two more children, Molly and Lexie, half-sisters to Meredith.
Lexie Grey becomes an intern at Seattle Grace, and many of the story lines of the show include the developing friendship between her and sister, Meredith.
The TV sitcom, Empty Nest, (see 61 Down in the puzzle above), was a spin-off from the hit television comedy, The Golden Girls, which originally aired on NBC from September 1985 to May 1992, and continues to show repeatedly in syndication. A recurring character in The Golden Girls was next door neighbor, Dr. Harry Weston, played by Richard Mulligan. Dr. Weston is a widowed pediatrician with two grown daughters, who also made appearances on The Golden Girls. However, the most popular character from the Weston household that appeared on The Golden Girls was the dog Dreyfuss.
Empty Nest ran for over six years on NBC and spawned its own spin-off, Nurses, which focused on the nursing personnel from Dr. Weston's place of employment. (All three shows were created by Susan Harris.)
29 and 34 Down: The CBS television series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation based on the cases of a group of Las Vegas criminologists and their forensic investigations, quickly became such a popular part of American culture that the series spawned CSI: Miami and CSI: New York.
