On this date in 1940, the first McDonald's opened in San Bernardino, California. On the nine-item menu were: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, potato chips, milk, coffee, three soft drinks, and pies. The second McDonald's restaurant did not open until 1955, (in Des Plaines, Illinois).
Born on this date in 1856, American writer, L. Frank Baum, the creator of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.(Baum died in 1919.)
