Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day to commemorate and celebrate the international work done by the Red Cross.
On this date in 1886, a carbonated beverage that would later become "Coca-Cola" was invented by Atlanta pharmacist John Styth Pemberton. Pemberton was a developer of patent medicines and created the original drink with "medicinal" qualities.
