--On June 3, 1965, astronaut Edward White II performed the first extravehicular activity (EVA, or spacewalk, thus becoming the first American to walk in space. As part of the Gemini 4 mission, White piloted the capsule.
--On this date in 1989, Skydome officially opened in Toronto, Ontario. It was the first domed stadium with a retractable roof.
--Born on this date in 1726, the Father of Geology, Scottish born James Hutton. Hutton formulated the modern "uniformitarian theory" which describes the processes that have shaped the evolution of the Earth's surface.
--Born on this date in 1906, French (born in St. Louis, Missouri) dancer and singer Josephine Baker.
--Born on this date in 1926, US poet of the beat generation, Allen Ginsberg. Ginsberg is best known for his provocative book Howl.
