--On this date in 1886, 49-year-old US President Grover Cleveland, married Frances Folsom, a daughter of a former law partner. To date, Cleveland is the only president to be married inside the White House.
--On June 2, 1953, the BBC, (British Broadcasting Corporation), broadcast live coverage of the coronation of Elizabeth II. The first such ceremony to be on televison.
--Born on this date in 1731, Martha Dandridge, in New Kent County, Virginia. (Later to become Martha Washington, the first "First Lady" of the United States.
--Born on this date in 1941, Charlie Watts, an original member of the British band, The Rolling Stones. (The other original members were Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, and Brian Jones.
--Today is Republic Day in Italy, which celebrates the anniversary of the end of the monarchy and the beginnings of the Republic.
