In 1858 he sent a written account of his work to Charles Darwin, who then arranged to have Wallace's work announced to the public at the same time as his own. Wallace and Darwin arrived at their conclusions separately. However, it was Darwin's famous On the Origin of Species, published in 1859 that made their theories known worldwide.
