Pool Party -- A Logic Puzzle
The five families in the five houses on the north side of South Straight Street got their children together for a pool party hosted by the family in the middle house. There are eleven children living in the five houses, with two of the families having three children each; two of the families having two children each; and one family having only one child, a girl -- totaling the eleven living on the street.
All the adults on the street were also asked to attend and each family was to bring enough of one particular food item to go with the grilled burgers the host family would provide, and one type of item, (per family), for the children to use at the party. The five types of items for the children to use were beach balls; floats, snorkels; water sticks; and one family was to bring towels for all the children.
Six of the eleven children on the street live in houses #132 and #134. At least one girl lives in four of the five houses, and the one family with no girls, is the family that brought ice cream to the pool party for dessert.
Neither the family that has two boys and no girls, nor another family that brought salad for the meal, is the family that brought the beach balls.
The family that brought water sticks from home for the children to play with in the pool has two girls and one boy and the family that lives at 130 South Straight Street has two girls and no boys.
The family that lives at 136 Straight Street, with only one child in the household, brought the towels for the pool party and the family with one girl and two boys provided floats for the children to use in the pool.
The family that brought drinks for the meal was not the same family that brought snorkels for the pool.
The family that brought corn on the cob for the children's meal, live next door to the family that brought salad to eat.
To solve the puzzle, use the information provided to determine the number and gender of children that live in each of the five houses; what items (food and pool toys), each family contributed to the party; and the house number in which each family lives.
