Clowns at the Circus -- A Logic Problem
When the O'Malley family returned home from the circus, they were discussing how impressed they had been with the four clowns that were passing out balloons before the show. At least one member of the family had been introduced to each of the four clowns, so they knew their names. And all of the family, (as a group), knew what costumes the clowns had been wearing but after the two hour show and the ride home, they began to mix up the details.
They remembered that Charlie the Clown had yellow hair, but he was not the clown carrying the yellow balloons, and that the clown wearing the yellow shirt was the one carrying blue balloons.
They also remembered that the clown wearing red pants with green oversized pockets on them was carrying balloons the same color as one of the two on his pants but couldn't remember if it was red or green.
One clown was wearing a pink bow tie which matched his pink shoes. And another clown was wearing a long pink tie with purple patches, but he was not the clown with the blue hair, nor was he the one with red hair.
All of the O'Malleys had met Cosmos the Clown and they knew he was not the clown wearing the shirt with purple stars on a green background, nor did he have any purple on his tie. He was, however, wearing purple pants.
One clown was wearing extra large orange shoes and one was wearing extra large brown shoes. The one wearing the extra large brown shoes was carrying red balloons. But neither of the two was wearing yellow pants.
Clyde the Clown was wearing extra large white shoes and his pants were green. He had no red on his clothes, his hair, or his balloons.
The family agreed that the clown wearing purple pants did not have red hair; and that the clown with orange hair was not the one wearing the red and green striped shirt, nor was he the one wearing the extra extra large red and white tie, nor was he carrying yellow or green balloons.
And finally they put together what they remembered about meeting Cinnipeg the Clown. They agreed he wasn't wearing anything pink, nor was he the clown wearing the blue tie with yellow polka dots. His shirt, however was blue with orange dots on it.
Combining all the details the family remembered, determine the color of the balloons each clown was carrying, and the colors of each clown's hair, pants, shirt, shoes and tie, respectively.
