Location

Located on the North American continent and the Central American peninsula, Mexico is bordered by the United States on the north, Guatemala and Belize on the south, with lengthy coastlines on both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Mexico's flag, pictured above, features three
bands of color -- green, white and red -- with
the country's coat of arms centered. According to
the CIA World Factbook1, green represents love,
hope and joy; white symbolizes peace and
honesty; and the red band represents courage and strength.

Geographic Features

Mexico's topography varies from high sierras in the far northwest to high plateaus to coastal plains. The country is also home to several major rivers systems and large lakes.

Climate

Northwest Mexico is arid. The Pacific coast is tropical. Plateaus and mountainous regions are warm most of the year.

Formation

In 1824, Mexico set forth its national constitution, although it would be several years before full independence from Spain was achieved.
