The seven stars on Grenada's flag, pictured above,
represent the seven administrative districts of the
country. The star represents St. George, the capital.
The color red on the flag represents unity and
courage; green represents the vegetation of the
island nation; and yellow represents both the
abundant sunshine and the warmth of the inhabitants.
Spices are a major export of Grenada and the nutmeg
pod on the flag represents that fact.1

Historic Fact

Known as the "spice island of the Caribbean," the country was devastated by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, which had a siginificant impact on the country's nutmeg production.
