Did You Know?

After Kentucky attained statehood in 1792, Washinton County was the first county created by Kentucky's new government. It was named for the president at the time, George Washington.

Three more counties were created in 1792 -- Scott, Shelby, (named for Kentucky's first governor), and Logan -- bringing the total number of Kentucky counties to thirteen.

For more information on Kentucky counties, see the County Tables (A-D, E-K, L-N, and O-W), which provides links to the historical markers found in each county, the origin of each county's name, each county's demographics, and links to each county's local newspaper where available.
