(59 Across) empathic (Adjective) Showing empathy or ready comprehension of others's states. (Empathy is identification with, and understanding of, the feelings of another person. Empathy is similar to sympathy, whereas sympathy generally refers to an understanding of feelings of loss or sorrow. Sometimes one sees the word "emphatic" misused and misspelled in place of "empathy". Emphatic means: forceful and definite in expression; exclamatory; sudden or strong; or spoken with emphasis - not at all similar to empathic.
