(4 Down) The Eastman Kodak Company, usually referred to simply as "Kodak" held a monopoly on the photographic film industry in the United States for most of the 20th century. In the late 19th century, Charles Eastman worked on developing a camera that was easy to use and inexpensive for the public to purchase. The resulting Kodak camera marked a revolution in photography and introduced "family snapshots" as a norm in American living.
Eastman also "invented" the name "Kodak" searching for a word that both began and ended in "k", a "strong letter", as he termed it. A self-educated man, Eastman was known for his philanthropy, donating more than $75 million to various organizations and educational institutions.
