Below are simple definitions to seven of the "n" English language verbs used in the puzzle above:

  • natter 1. Talk socially without exchanging too much information. Synonyms and similar words: chaffer, chat, chatter, chew the fat, chitchat, claver, confab, confabulate, gossip, jaw, shoot the breeze, visit.
  • naturalize 1. Adapt (a wild plant or plot of land) to the environment. 2. Make into a citizen. 3. Make more life-like. 4. To adopt (a foreign word, custom, etc.) into the common use of a country or region. Synonyms: cultivate, domesticate, naturalise, tame. [Derived from "natural" which in turn is derived from the Latin natura "nature, character".]
  • necessitate 1. Require as useful, just, or proper. Synonyms and similar words: Synonym: ask, call for, demand, involve, need, postulate, require, take. 2. Cause to be concomitant. [Derived from the Latin necessitas.]
  • needle 1. Goad or provoke, as by constant criticism. 2. To tease or heckle repeatedly. 3. Prick with a needle.
  • negate 1. Make ineffective by counterbalancing the effect of. Synonyms: neutralise, neutralize, nullify. 2. Prove negative; show to be false. Synonym: contradict. 3. Deny the truth of. Synonym: contravene. 4. Be in contradiction with. Synonym: belie. [Derived from the Latin negatus past participle of negare "to deny".]
  • network This word is most often used as a noun in the English language. However, due to modern technology it has acquire usage as a verb and when used as a verb, network is defined as: Communicate with and within a group.
  • nictate Briefly shut the eyes. Synonyms: blink, wink. Also: nictitate. [Derived from Latin nictare "to wink".]
