Places to Go and Things to Know: Rhode Island
The first of the thirteen original colonies to declare independence from Great Britain, Rhode Island was the last of the the thirteenth to ratify the constitution and thus is ranked as our 13th state in order of admission to the Union. Rhode Island is the smallest state (area) in the United States, covering a total area of 1,545 square miles or 4,002 square kilometers, but there's still plenty to see and do within its boundaries. The National Park Service manages three areas within Rhode Island. They are:
Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, an area Rhode Island shares with Massachusetts.
Roger Williams National Memorial in Providence.
Touro Synagogue National Historic Site
