Below are simple definitions to nine of the less common "t" English language adjectives used in the puzzle above:

  • tacit Understood or implied without being expressed directly. Synonyms: unspoken, implicit, inferred, implied, understood, silent. [Derived from Latin tacere "to be silent".]
  • tartan Similar words: patterned, decorative, spotted, mottled, stippled. (The NOUN tartan is: A cloth having a crisscross design.) [Possibly derived from the Old French word tiretaine "linsey-woolsey".]
  • temporal 1. Of this earth or world. Similar word: earthly. 2. Relating to time. Synonyms: chronological, time-based, historical. 3. Lasting only a short time. Synonym: brief. [Derived from Latin temporus "time".]
  • tenable 1. Justified in a fair or rational way and able to be defended because based on sound reasoning or evidence. Synonym: well-founded. 2. Capable of being occupied or held. 3. MILITARY capable of being defended. Similar words: acceptable, defensible, plausible, rational, reasonable, sound. [Derived from Latin tenere "to hold".]
  • tensile 1. Relating to or involving tension. 2. Capable of being stretched or pulled out of shape. Synonyms: ductile, flexible, malleable, stretchy. [Derived from Latin tendere "stretch".]
  • thespian Relating to the theater or the profession of acting. Synonyms: dramatic, theatrical. (The NOUN thespian is defined as: somebody who acts on the stage.) [Derived from Thespis a 6th century BCE Greek poet and regarded by many as the father of Greek tragedy.]
  • thoracic Involving or located in the chest. Synonym: pectoral. [Derived from "thorax" which derives from the Greek thorax "chest, breastplate".]
  • topical 1. Relating to something that is of interest or importance at the moment. Synonyms: current, newsworthy, relevant, up-to-date. 2. Relating to or situated in a specific place. 3. MEDICINE Describes medications that are applied directly to the surface of the area being treated.
  • turbid 1. (of liquids) Clouded as with sediment; opaque and muddy. 2. Dense and cloudy or dark. 3. Confused and muddled. Similar words: cloudy, murky, muddy, unclear.
