Below are definitions to six of the less common "o" nouns used in the puzzle above:

• oakmoss: A lichen that grows on oak trees in the northern hemisphere. It produces a fragrant resin that is used in the manufacture of certain perfumes.
• okapi: An African mammal, similar to a giraffe, but with a much shorter neck; okapis have a chestnut brown hide with white stripes on their legs.
• oriel: 1. A bay window projecting from an outside wall and supported from beneath by a bracket. 2. A recess or small room formed by an oriel window.
• origami: The Japanese art of folding paper into shapes representing objects (e.g., flowers or birds).
• oryx: A large African antelope, with black and white markings on the face, a hump above the shoulders, and long straight nearly upright horns.
• orzo: Pasta shaped like pearls of barley; often served with lamb in Greek cuisine.
