Did You Know? Valentine's Day is believed to have derived from the ancient Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia, held on February 15, which gradually merged with the festivals honoring two Roman martyrs, both named Saint Valentine, on February 14. The annual Roman pagan festival has also been associated with Mardi Gras. (Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday".)
