A view of the Kentucky River Palisades as the trees begin to show their autumn colors.

The Kentucky River Palisades are made up of steep exposed limestone cliffs and deep scenic gorges, along a 100-mile, (160 km), stretch of the Kentucky River from Clays Ferry in Madison County to Frankfort, in Franklin County.

The Kentucky River Palisades provide an ecosytem for four endangered species of bats and several rare and endangered species of plants.

The Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, The Nature Conservancy, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, are all part of a cooperative effort to preserve and protect this unique area.
