Kentucky Crossword Puzzle #KYWEB002
Edited by V A Benge

In the puzzle below, there is a clue pertaining to Columbia, the seat of Adair County, Kentucky.

According to the Kentucky Historical Society, Jane Lampton, (the mother of Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain), lived in Columbia as a girl. She was a granddaughter of Colonel William and Jane Casey, original Adair County settlers.

The Casey House, built by Colonel William and Jane Casey, is also on the National Register of Historic Places and is currently used as an antiques store.

Other historic sites in Adair County, include the former home of Kentucky author, Janice Holt Giles and her husband Henry. (Appalachian Books has a short introduction to Janice Holt Giles on their web site.)

Built in the Victorian style in the late 19th century, the Adair County Courthouse is too listed on the national registry.
