Did You Know? (52 Down) Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835) was an Italian composer whose operas showcased singers who were masters of the bel canto singing style. Bel canto means "beautiful song" in Italian and emphasized perfect singing technique in a clear tone. The tragic opera Norma was considered Bellini's masterpiece. It premiered in 1831 and is still performed today.
