In geologic terms, the group of islands are connected to Argentina by a submarine plateau. Out of a group of hundreds of islands that make up the Falklands, there are only two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland, with the capital city of Stanley, (or Port Stanley) being located on East Falkland. The East Falkland island is also home to the majority of the population of the entire Falkland Islands group.
