Did You Know? (20 across) The cartoonist, Rube Goldberg,
(1883-1970) won a Pulitzer Prize in 1948 for his political cartoons. However,
he is best known for his drawings of elaborate machines that performed menial
tasks. Purdue University initiated the annual National Rube Goldberg Machine
Contest beginning in 1987. Teams of engineering students from colleges and
universities across the US contrive and build complex machines that perform
simple tasks. The results would surely trigger pride in Goldberg's cartoon
character, Professor Butts.
