Did You Know? (4 Down) The first famous almanac in the US was Poor Richard’s Almanack written and published by Benjamin Franklin, beginning in 1732, under the pseudonym Richard Saunders. The almanac was known for its aphorisms, proverbs and common sense advice. The aphorisms were gathered and published in a volume, The Way of Wealth in 1757. Many of Franklin's sayings are still popular today, such as "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"; "Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise"; "Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards"; and "A good example is the best sermon".
