active pitching in Major League Baseball in 1993, he still holds the league
record for most career strikeouts with 5,714. Ryan pitched with the New York
Mets, California Angels, Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, respectively. The
Mets, Angels and Astros have all retired his number 34 jersey. He was elected to
the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. In February of 2008, Ryan became president of the
