The NFL team, the New York Jets, also used the stadium as their home from the time of its opening until 1983 and another area NFL team, the New York Giants, played their 1975 season there while Giants Stadium was under construction. The baseball Mets crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees, also played in Shea during 1974-1975 while Yankee Stadium was being renovated. If all goes as scheduled, the Metropolitans will begin home play in their new park, Citi Field in 2009, after which the historic Shea will be dismantled. Printable
