(35 Across) Known more in the annals of US history for its tire and rubber factories and as the site of the manufacture of the first automobile tires in the US, Akron, Ohio is also home to many other "firsts" and unique events in the nation's history. One unique event held in Akron, that remains popular today is the annual All-American Soapbox Derby. The Soapbox Derby is a racing contest of motorless cars. Drivers are aged 11 to 15 and must have built their own racing entry. The top winners receive prizes that include college scholarships.
