Did You Know? (65 Across) The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, or NASA was formed as an independent agency of the US government
during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. The agency's
initial mission was to outperform the Soviets in aviation and spaceflight.
Today, the US and Russia cooperate in space missions and discovery. The NASA
space mission began with Project Mercury, followed by Project Apollo, (the
program that landed men on the moon). Today, the Space Shuttle missions are at
