Vocabulary Building Blocks: (18 Across) The word terra is Latin for earth, thus several words and expressions used commonly in the English language with the suffix terra- or terr- refer to "earth". For example terra alba, a fine white clay; terra cotta, a hard unglazed earthenware; terra firma, the solid part of the earth's surface; terra incognita, an unknown and unexplored region; terrain, a piece or plot of ground; terrarium, a place or enclosure for keeping land animals, plants, etc.; and terrestrial, operating or living or growing on land. There are several other examples of common English usage, however, the ones most commonly clued in crosswords puzzles are those cited above.

Judy Garland took over the film role after Fox Studios refused to let Temple take part in an MGM film. The Wizard of Oz is near the top of the list of the most-watched films of all time. The movie, based on the L. Frank Baum novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, (1900), was released in 1939 and won two Academy Awards -- one for Best Music-Original Score, and one for Best Song for "Over the Rainbow".
