Vocabulary Building Blocks: (18 Across) The word terra is Latin for earth, thus several words and expressions used commonly in the English language with the suffix terra- or terr- refer to "earth". For example terra
alba, a fine white clay; terra cotta, a hard unglazed earthenware; terra firma,
the solid part of the earth's surface; terra incognita, an unknown and
unexplored region; terrain, a piece or plot of ground; terrarium, a place or
enclosure for keeping land animals, plants, etc.; and terrestrial, operating or
living or growing on land. There are several other examples of common English
usage, however, the ones most commonly clued in crosswords puzzles are those
cited above.

chosen to play Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. Judy Garland took over the
film role after Fox Studios refused to let Temple take part in an MGM film.
The Wizard of Oz is near the top of the list of the most-watched films
of all time. The movie, based on the L. Frank Baum novel, The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz, (1900), was released in 1939 and won two Academy Awards --
one for Best Music-Original Score, and one for Best Song for "Over the
Rainbow".
