Noun) Aloe is defined as: Succulent plants having rosettes of leaves usually with fiber like hemp and spikes of showy flowers; native mainly to South Africa. There are more than 150 species in the aloe genus, which is part of the lily family. Several aloes are commercially important as the source of ingredients used in medicine and others for their valuable fiber. In some crossword puzzles, aloe is clued as "burn plant" because of their soothing qualities when the juice of the plant is applied to minor burns.

Did You Know? (38 Down) North Carolina is known as the Tar Heel State. Although historians disagree as to the source of the nickname, they do acknowledge the name has been around at least since the Civil War era.
