Did You Know? (40 Down) AKC, when referring to dogs, stands for the American Kennel Club, an organization which registers purebred dog pedigrees in the US. Breeders register dogs to help with sales, among other reasons. In the US, being AKC registered does not mean the animal is "show quality" or even healthy for that matter. It only means it's parents were purebred animals.
