Did You Know? (40 Across) Raggedy Ann will soon be 100 years old. The fictional character was created in 1915 by author Johnny Gruelle. He created the doll first for his young daughter and three years later, Raggedy Ann appeared in a series of children's books by Gruelle, and a doll was marketed to the public along with the book. In 1920 Raggedy Andy made his debut in the Raggedy Andy Stories. The raggedy doll couple have since been featured in numerous books, animated movies, and their own TV series from 1988-1992. In addition, in Arcolo, Illinois, Gruelle's home town, there is a museum dedicated to Raggedy Ann and Andy, which opened to the public in 1999.
