Did You Know? (43 Down) A bearish trader in the stock market is expecting prices to fall, as opposed to a bullish trader, who expects a rise in prices. The origins of these terms are unclear, although there are several theories as to their initial use in decribing the securities market. On Wall Street, buyers are considered bulls, while sellers are called bears. However, a trader can maintain both attitudes, for example he or she may be "bullish on oil" and "bearish on drug companies". When used to indicated market trends overall, a bearish market is associated with pessimism in the trading world and a bullish market with general optimism.
