used in crossword puzzles. 2. A tribunal; court 3. An assembly for discussion of
public affairs. 4. The meeting place itself, for open discussion. 5. A public
meeting. (On the Internet, many chat rooms and bulletin board type web sites are
called forums. Forum is a Latin word.)
Did You Know? (51 Across) Noah Webster, "the schoolmaster of
America", published a speller (1783), grammar (1784), and a reader (1785). The
speller, in revised form is still in print. In 1806 he published his first
dictionary. Then in 1828, the monumental American Dictionary of the
English Language was completed. Webster was the first lexicographer to
compile American usage of English words, as opposed to the British versions.
Today, Webster's name is still prominently displayed on revised and abridged
volumes of his original work.
