Did You Know? (9 Across) Athletic great, Jim Thorpe played bit parts in several movies, including King Kong (1933), Road to Utopia (1946), and White Heat (1949). Thorpe, a descendant of the Sauk leader, Black Hawk, won fame at the 1912 Olympic Games, winning both the pentathlon and decathlon, as a member of the United States track and field team. A few months later it was revealed that Thorpe had played minor league baseball prior to the Olympics and was therefore labeled a "professional" and forced to return his medals. Thorpe went on to become the first star of the APFA, (American Professional Football Association), renamed the National Football League (NFL) in 1922, playing for the Canton Bulldogs of the APFA. In his athletic career, Thorpe also played pro basketball, as well as professional baseball for several teams, two of which were the New York Giants and the Boston Braves. Thirty years after he died, his Olympic medals were restored.
